Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation and Donegal Digital partner Enterprise Ireland have recently presented the 'Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), the 2018 Survey of Entrepreneurship in Ireland'. The country ranks 5th highest of 20 in Europe on the Total early-stage Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) Index and only Netherlands, Slovakia, Austria and Luxembourg are ahead.
GEM takes into account the number of people across the country that have reported starting a new business during the last year. Authors explain that 26,900 people reported they were involved in starting a new business in 2018. Furthermore, it is also mentioned that one in five Irish adults aspire to start a business in the next 3 years.
According to Heather Humphreys TD, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, "each year, the data obtained through the GEM survey provides a unique and in-depth insight into entrepreneurship, a key focus of our new, whole-of-Government strategy, Future Jobs Ireland".
