Over the last two weeks, the Donegal ICT/FinTech working group (in which Donegal Digital participates) has been visiting, in conjunction with Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) and Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB), the post-primary schools promoting working and studying in ICT/FinTech locally.
To date, the Donegal ICT/FinTech group has visited the majority of the twenty-seven post primary schools across the county. According to Oran Doherty, Regional Skills Manager for the North West, these visits involve an ICT/FinTech employer in the county along with a representative from Donegal ETB or LYIT. They provide students with insight into what it is really like to work and study in ICT/FinTech locally, i.e., training opportunities and careers in Donegal. "The interactive workshops will allow post-primary students learn more about employment and learning opportunities in the sector in Donegal", explains Doherty.
Eilís McFadden, Digital Communications at ERNACT (Donegal Digital lead partner), has participated in these informative talks too. She is a recent graduate of LYIT with a Master of Science in Marketing Practice and she is developing a career plan in her home Donegal. In that way, she is a perfect candidate to inspire and motivate students with her story: "We were delighted with the response we got from students, with lots of discussion around the type of careers available on our doorstep. It was great to be able to share my own experience with students from the position of someone who has been there."
