Donegal Digital partner Údarás na Gaeltachta has held on the 22nd of July the first ever meeting on Toraigh (Tory Island).

The board chairperson, Anna Ní Ghallachair said it gave the board great pleasure to convene a meeting on the island: “Toraigh is a jewel and one of the strongest Irish-speaking areas in the country. The island community continues an ancient tradition of song and storytelling and Údarás na Gaeltachta has a responsibility to facilitate them, so that they can make a living on the island and maintain and strengthen their culture, not only for themselves but for all of Ireland.”

Among others, the board has approved projects which will lead to the creation of 100 fulltime jobs and entail significant investment in the Gaeltacht when they come to fruition and funding for a new gteic digital hub on Toraigh, which will be developed adjacent to the island’s Community Centre. According to Údarás na Gaeltachta, this new gteic digital hub will offer shared workspace and meeting centre which will be attractive solution to start-up enterprises and remote workers, particularly in light of the unprecedented growth of remote-working in recent years.

Donegal Digital partners have also approved funding to Coiste Forbartha na Málainne Bige to enable them to develop another digital innovation hub in Seanscoil na Málainne Bige in Gleann Cholm Cille. This investment has been approved as co-funding to the project which is being delivered in partnership with Donegal County Council, a Donegal Digital partner too.
