Donegal Digital is a public-private partnership composed by 8 organizations, companies and institutions with the vision of “Digitally literate communities co-building sustainable enterprises and societal services”. The Donegal Digital plan has three main objectives:
- Increase digital research and innovation
- Build strong Donegal digital communities
- Deepen the Letterkenny digital cluster
To achieve these objectives, the project currently contains 13 Actions, structured into three groups:
- Enabling Studies: short study actions, to study the opportunity for additional longer-term actions within the plan.
- Digital Services and Initiatives: County-wide initiatives that will develop new digital services or supports for business and the community.
- Local Delivery: one key action, Local Digital Hubs, will maximise the digital services and initiatives in local areas in the County.
The plan has been developed within the framework of the County’s Local Economic and Community Planning
(LECP) process, which mandated that a separate Donegal Digital be setup to develop and implement this
action plan. This team was chaired by Brian Boyle, Head of Information Systems
(HOIS), Donegal County Council.
The team is strongly of the view that the
plan should only contain actions that could be delivered by the county’s
development organisations, acting jointly, over a reasonable time period. Furthermore, the plan will support
achievement of other strategies in the overall Donegal LECP initiative.
The Donegal Digital plan is complementary
to, and dovetails at a local level with, the Irish Government’s National
Digital Strategy, Doing more with Digital, published in 2013,
as well as with its key sub-strategies, the e-government plan and the Ireland’s Broadband Intervention Strategy – December 2015.

fadtréimhsí laistigh den phlean.
- Seirbhísí agius Tionscnaimh Dhigiteacha: Tionscnaimh ar fud an chontae a
dhéanfaidh forbairt ar sheirbhísí digiteacha nua nó tacaíochtaí do ghnónna
agus don phobal.
- Seachadadh Áitiúil: uasmhéadóidh eochairghníomh
amháin, Moil Dhigiteacha Áitiúla, na seirbhísí agus tionscnaimh
dhigiteacha i gceantair áitiúla sa Chontae.
Rinneadh forbairt ar an phlean laistigh de
chreat an Chontae, Pleanáil Eacnamaíochta agus Pobail (LECP), faoi
shainordú go leagfaidh amach Donegal Digital ar leith le forbairt agus
cur i bhfeidhm a dhéanamh ar an phlean gníomhaíochta seo. Ba é Brian Boyle,
Ceann na gCóras Faisnéise (HOIS), Comhairle Chontae Dhún na nGall, a bhí ina
chathaoirleach ar an fhoireann seo.
Tá an fhoireann go láidir den tuairim nach
mbeadh sa phlean ach gníomhaíochtaí a d’fhéadfadh eagraíochtaí forbartha an
